Xiaojuan (Sophie) Zhang

Sophie ZhangBroadly speaking, I am interested in doing medical researches that would contribute to improve human health and treat human diseases. During the early-stage of my research life, I did basic research as well as clinical trial studies regarding endocrinology disease, such as diabetes and obesity. Currently, I am working on structure-based drug discovery projects. One of my major focus is to identify small molecules for the treatment of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency in vitro and in vivo. In addition, I am developing a T-cell assay system to test skin sensitizers for binding to HLA molecules. I am also participating in our drug hypersensitivity projects. My next interest is to do some cancer research while still hold my hands in the metabolic and drug discovery area, if possible. I hope one day, I would be able to help patients fight against diabetes, obesity, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, drug hypersensitivity and most importantly against malignant disease that makes the majority of the patients feel desperate.
